World Wrestling Entertainment
The WWE has been pushing the Diva Search once again and the limits of its TV-14 rating. The competition is basically to get more eye-candy on its shows and increase ratings. The eight women involved in this competition go through different tests, which air during RAW. On 07.04.05, these women had a "bikini boot camp" and they had to run through an obstacle course from the entrance ramp to the ring and back. The winner would be the woman who could do the obstacle course fastest. During the obstacle course, Leyla's bikini top came undone on national television. A video clip of the accident was posted on the WWE website on 07.05.05. There are rumors that Leyla was wearing red tape under her top and the accident (referred to as "wardrobe malfunction" borrowing the term used last year's Super Bowl scandal) was staged to increase ratings, which would explain why the WWE was able to release such video footage through their website. There are rumors that SpikeTV was not notified that this incident would occur.

There are rumors that the WWE has financial difficulties not selling out shows in the United States although shows oversees are doing well. This might be the main reason why the WWE keeps terminating employees, moving employees between its two shows (or brand names as the WWE prefers to refer to RAW and Smackdown) and constantly hiring new talent (including the 2005 Diva Search). If the WWE wants to sell a good product, it should concentrate in the production of RAW and Smackdown only, stop pushing the soap opera storylines and drop all weekend shows that most people don't watch.

The WWE released the Dudleys (due to problems during their contract negotiation), Spike Dudley, Joy Giovanni, Kenzo Suzuki, Matt Morgan, Charlie Haas, Jackie Gayda, Marty Jannetty, a very pregnant Dawn Marie, Mark Jindrak, Maven, Shannon Moore, James "Akio" Yun, "Gangrel" Heath, Billy Kidman and Kevin "Mordecai" Fertig from their contracts. Jim Cornette was fired for slapping an Ohio Valley Wrestling (developmental territory for the WWE) wrestler. Ivory's contract will not be renewed and Muhammad Hassan might be dropped because of all the heat that the WWE got from UPN after the terrorist attacks in London, England (07.06.05 and 07.21.05). At the same time, Lance Storm has left the WWE to concentrate his efforts promoting his new project, the Storm Wrestling Academy. Former ECW wrestler, Big Vito, has signed a contract with the WWE and Brock Lesnar is scheduled to return soon.

Road Warrior Animal returned to the WWE (Smackdown, 07.14.05). He said that he felt disgusted by the tag team champions, MNM (Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury). In return, NMN challenged Animal and a partner of his choosing (Heidenreich, whom MNM attacked before Animal came to the ring) to a tag team belts on the Great American Bash PPV (07.24.05).

During the 07.14.05 Smackdown, UPN ran a commercial with Hulk Hogan promoting the Lost Episodes of XFW video package. Considering that Hogan has been part of RAW for several weeks and he has a new reality show on VH1, the XPW commercial was somewhat awkward, but a great move to sell the videos nonetheless.

Total Non-Stop Action
TNA continues distributing it television programming through RealNetworks (broadband connection only). For me this meant installing RealPlayer, an application that I haven't used or cared about using for the past five years or so. Regardless what video player we need to use to watch Impact, it is cool to watch the show while working (or at lunch time).

Impact on SpikeTV With this month's massive talent release, TNA has a lot of new faces to choose from now that TNA has finally (NYC 07.21.05) signed the much anticipated a deal with SpikeTV to air Impact on Saturday nights starting this October (about time).

On the 07.08.05 edition of Impact (considering that the show aired on Fridays), Jeff Jarrett interrupted a match to complain that he should be the NWA world champion demanding respect and smashing acoustic guitars on other wrestlers. Jarrett is great wrestler who needs a new gimmick. His gimmick got old a while ago and he should find a new gimmick or concentrate in his wrestling moves and technique.

TNA had its monthly PPV show, No Surrender (07.17.05). America's Most Wanted defeated Michael Shane and Alex Shelley. Sonjay Dutt defeated Elix Skipper, Shark Boy and Mikey Batts during the Super X Cup Qualifier Match. Apolo and Sonny Siaki defeated Simon Diamond and David Young. Samoa Joe defeated Chris Sabin. Team Canada (Roode, Young and A-1) defeated the The Naturals and Lance Hoyt. Kipp James (formerly known as Billy Gunn and The Outlaw) and Monty Brown defeated Konnan and Ron "The Truth" Killings. AJ Styles defeated Sean Waltman with Jerry Lynn as the special referee. Christopher Daniels held on to the the X-Division Championship defeating Petey Williams with A-1. Raven kept the NWA world title defeating Abyss with James Mitchell in a Steel Chain Dog Collar Match (another match milking the ECW cash cow). The PPV closed with Rhino attacking Raven. This means that Rhino might face Raven on the next PPV, Sacrifice 08.14.05.

Raven has found an ally in a former enemy, Sabu. Raven was attacked by Jeff Jarrett and Rhyno (Impact, 07.22.05). After Jarrett and Rhyno interrupted a match, Raven confronted them and Sabu attacked Rhyno (Impact, 07.29.05). Raven and Sabu will face Jarrett and Rhyno on the Sacrifice PPV (08.14.05).

In the past couple of weeks, TNA has been promoting its 10.23.05 PPV event, Bound for Glory, not the 08.14.05 PPV PV, Sacrifice. That is weird.

Hart Foundation at Wrestlefest 05, BCW On the 07.22.05 BCW show (Wrestlefest 05) at Ciociaro Club in Oldcastle, Ontario, Canada, there was a reunion of the Hart Foundation with Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart with "The Mouth Of The South" Jimmy Hart. "The Mouth Of The South" Jimmy Hart said how much he loved Canada and being in Canada. He plugged Bret Hart's autograph session/luncheon at Scott D'Amore's Stars of the Game sports bar and grill the next day. Jimmy went on to say that the music business and the wrestling business have both been in his blood for years and he can't believe he's been getting paid to do this all these years. He mentioned being inducted into the Hall of Fame and that he had to thank the fans and also the wrestlers who helped put him there. He first brought out the man who he called the "Foundation" of the Hart Foundation, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. The Anvil called Jimmy a tremendous manager and thanked him for helping them reach the top of the wrestling world. As Jimmy was about to bring out his next guest, "Diamond" Dave Lockbaum from The Rock 95.1 FM came out to the ring with Shawn Spears. Spears attacked Anvil, but Anvil easily overpowered him and sent him scurrying off with Lockbaum. Jimmy then brought out the "heart" of the Hart Foundation, the one and only Bret "The Hitman" Hart. Bret came out to a huge standing ovation. He thanked all of the fans for their support. He said he owes a lot to Jimmy and Anvil, and said there would be no Hitman without the Hart Foundation.
