World Wrestling Entertainment
The WWE has been pushing
Orlando Jordan who has been playing sidekick to JBL for several months. Jordan
won the US title from John Cena with help from JBL and the Basham Brothers
(Smackdown, 03.03.05).
The WWE has also been pushing
this year's Wrestlemania, which the WWE wants to sell for $50. The biggest
matches are Batista against Triple H for the World title, John Cena against JBL
for the WWE championship, Randy Orton against The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels
against Kurt Angle.
Two former WWF wrestlers
returned to the WWE, even if it was for a single night (RAW, 03.14.05). Jake
"The Snake" Roberts and Marty Jannetty. Roberts had a talk with Randy
Orton that ended with Orton giving Roberts an RKO (a modification of the DDT, a
move favored by Roberts in the 1980's). Jannetty teamed with Shawn Michaels as
The Rockers to beat La Resistance that same night.
Former WWE women's champion
Gail Kim
has been in the news lately. This time her wrestling moves haven't made a name
for Kim, but rather top-less pictures of her. Considering how much sex the WWE
sells with the increasing number of silicone eye candy that the promotion has
acquired in the past months, the WWE made a bad move letting her go.
As everyone knows the WWE
took over the assets of ECW more than a year ago. The WWE wants to produce a PPV
event under the ECW banner with wrestlers who were employed by ECW on 06.12.05.
The problem is that Shane Douglas (now part of TNA) wants to do the same on two
days later, 06.10.05.
Total Non-Stop Action
Cablevision
and Time Warner Cable
are fighting again. This meant that FSN
was pulled of the air again.
My only alternative is watching Xplosion, on channel 94, which has selected
matches and runs a week late.
As it has been become a
tradition, if you have a large promotion, you have a PPV event every month for
about $30. On the Destination X PPV on 03.13.05, Jeff Jarrett beat DDP with help
from Monty Brown retaining the NWA world title once again.
Ultimate Pro Wrestling
St. Clair Entertainment
Group has released the Ultimate Pro Wrestling Superstars, a four-hour DVD
featuring ten matches, the biggest names in the UPW, tons of exclusive footage,
a special appearance by Joannie Laurer (formerly known as Chyna in the WWE) and
so much more. Includes exclusive views of Inside The University, partying with
the superstars, entrance videos, and an inside look at the UPW’s sexy Vixens.
National Wrestling Federation
Although NWL no longer
promotes matches (dormant since 1988), I have been watching their DVD releases
and reading a book written by Shawn "Crusher" Crossen on the secrets
of wrestling. NWL was the brainchild of Shawn Crossen who at the age of fourteen
with a group of friends had professional wrestling matches and at the age of
sixteen was airing The Kids Pro Wrestling Show show taped at the Anoka Armory,
Minessota, MI.
Aside from the action and the
drama, wrestling (as other forms of entertainment and sports) help keep children
away from bad habits and undesirable people or situations.
