Some Random Thoughts
Two years ago,
I revived this website. Next month, this website will be five years old. That is
five years of expressing my opinion about the professional wrestling industry.
World Wrestling Entertainment
There is a rumor going
around about a possible return of Bret Hart only if Vince McMahon apologizes to
him to the job that cost Hart the world title to Shawn Michaels. It would be
nice to see Bret Hart back in the ring in the WWE or any promotion, either as a
wrestler or not.
Lita won the women's title
(RAW, 12.06.04) from Trish Stratus. It was a good match, much better than most
women matches in the WWE.
Vince McMahon declared the
World title vacant (RAW, 12.06.04) because there was no real winner in the
match
between Triple H, Chris Benoit and Edge the week before. McMahon gave the
responsibility of deciding the fate of the title to Eric Bischoff who was coming
back from vacation the following week (RAW, 12.13.04). Bischoff decided that the
best way to solve this issue was the Elimination Chamber on the New Year's
Revolution PPV (01.09.05) with Triple H, Randy Orton, Edge, Chris Benoit, Chris
Jericho and Batista (who is expected to betray Triple H and maybe win the title).
Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio
won the tag team titles from Kenzo Suzuki and Rene Dupree (Smackdown, 12.09.04).
At the Armageddon PPV (12.12.04), Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio defended and kept
their titles in a match against Suzuki and Dupree.
Funaki won a battle royal
that determined who would face Spike Dudley for the cruiserweight championship
(Smackdown, 12.09.04). At the Armageddon PPV (12.12.04), Funaki became the
new cruiserweight champion.
As of late, JBL has
surrounded himself with Amy Webber, Orlando Jones and the Basham Brothers (known
as the Cabinet), who often interfere in his matches and have helped JBL hold on
to his WWE title. The Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long put JBL in a match
against Booker T, the Undertaker and Eddie Guerrero for the WWE title
(Armageddon, 12.12.04), in JBL was able to keep his title.
Daniel Puder won the Tough
Enough competition (Smackdown, 12.16.04).
The WWE
returned to Iraq to
entertain the armed forces stationed there (Smackdown, 12.23.04). The show
included footage from the troops greeting their friends and families, several
less than memorable matches and sexual overtones from Dawn Marie, Miss Jackie,
Lilian Garcia and Torrie Wilson.
There are rumors that more
WWE women will be in Playboy including Torrie Wilson (her second pictorial),
Dawn Marie, Miss Jackie, Victoria, Chirsty Hemme, Joy Giovanni (former Playboy
model), Amy Weber (former Playboy model), Michelle McCool and Lilian Garcia.
Lita, Molly Holly, Ivory and Maria are still negotiating. Trish Stratus, Stacey
Keibler, Stephanie McMahon have declined proposals from Playboy. I do not know
how much of this is true, but it would not surprise me. The WWE is desperately
looking for new ways to make more money. WWE is its own worst enemy making
dangerous decisions often forgetting that its business is wrestling (or sports
entertainment as the WWE refers to it), not adult entertainment.
Total Non-Stop Action
TNA is using the best gimmick
that WCW ever had. Right after leaving the WWE (then called WWF), Hall and Nash
were hired by WCW and acted as they were invading the promotion, adopting the
name of The Outsiders. With Hollywood Hogan, they formed the NWO (name then
owned by WCW, now owned by the WWE). Nowadays (or at least for the time being),
Hall and Nash joined Jarrett formed the Kings of Wrestling. The gimmick was fun
in WCW. I hope that TNA knows how to use the gimmick to sell shows. At least,
Mike Tenay (one of the main commentators for WCW during the NWO days) helped
selling the gimmick once and may be able to do it again. Of course, this would
work only if Hall and Nash stay for more than a handful of weeks.
TNA is also using well-known
wrestlers with old feuds (most from the WCW/NWO days) who are giving them new
life at TNA. Diamond Dallas Page and Raven, who started their feud in WCW, are
feuding again in TNA. Randy Savage is also continuing his feud with Hall and
especially Nash.
There are several references of Hogan and Sting, giving us a hope that they
would be part of TNA some time in the future.
Jeff Jarrett faced Monty Brown
for the NWA World title (Impact, 12.03.04). Jarrett of course won the match,
thanks to Hall and Nash. After the match, Randy Savage came to the ring area
with most (if not all) TNA wrestlers. After the match, TNA showed Savage
standing in front of AJ Styles and Jeff hardy who had been beat in the parking
area and a car speeding in their direction. The world title match and Savage's
return after the match were a interesting way to close the Turning Point PPV
(12.05.04).
TNA had second Sunday
three-hour PPV, Turning Point (12.05.04). TNA had a thirty-minute free preview
making Turning Point three and half hours long. During the preview, TNA
indicated that a limousine with Connecticut license plates, played with the
possibility of a lawsuit from the WWE over some footage that TNA taped when they
invaded the WWE taping the commercial for next year's Royal Rumble at
Universal Studios
in Orlando, FL. With the introduction of Jimmy Hart who came to ring side, TNA
left everyone with a taste of Hogan. It seems that Hogan has signed with TNA at
last.
During the PPV, Team Canada
won the tag team titles from 3 Live Kru when Johnny Devine returned to TNA and
helped his team for the win. Diamond Dallas Page won his match against Raven.
Petey Williams kept his X-Division title in his match with Chris Sabin. Macho
Man Randy Savage, AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy won their match against Jarrett, Hall
and Nash. Since Savage pinned Jarrett, it was expected that they would have a
match on the Final Resolution PPV (01.16.05) for the NWA World title. On the Six
Sides of Steel match, America's Most Wanted beat Triple X. According to the
stipulation of the match, "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels and Primetime Elix
Skipper won't be able to be tag team partners again in TNA.
As for the NWA World title,
Jarrett will face the winner of the DDP, Monty Brown and Kevin Nash. Both matches
are scheduled for the Final Resolution PPV (01.16.05).
Team Canada has every title
except the NWA world title, currently held by Jeff Jarrett. This reminds me when
the last incarnation of the Hart Foundation (who were mostly Canadian) had all
the titles in the WWF (now WWE) circa 1998.
Hector Garza has been getting
a big push from TNA. He beat AJ Styles (Impact, 12.10.04) and was close to
winning the NWA world title from Jarrett (Impact, 12.17.04). What annoys the hell
out of me is that during his matches a Spanish broadcaster is invited to share
the play by play in Spanish while Mike Tenay does his in English. Needless to
say, Garza is a good wrestler who lead Team Mexico to another Americas X Cup in
March 2004.
Dusty Rhodes is back in TNA
(Impact, 12.17.04). He was fun to watch as Golddust in the WWF (now WWE), but he
seemed a bore after his interview with the Franshise later that night. I doubt
that he can win the NWA title from Jarrett or anyone else for that matter.
One wrestler who has been
back for a while is Marc Mero who is using the name John B Badd (the same name
that he used in WCW). He has made little impact in TNA (no pun intended).
There are rumors that TNA has
no plans for PPV events. It seems that TNA is short of cash and Panda Energy
might reconsider their investment.
I just hope that TNA doesn't get shut down, becoming another WCW (another
promotion with on going management and monetary problems). Of course, rumors
that Dusty Rhodes is getting too power hungry don't help the promotion.
Border City Wrestling
The following are the
results sent by Border City Wrestling for the Seasons Beatings show on 12.19.04
at the Dillons Niteclub in Windsor, Ontario. El Reverso defeated Tim Titan.
D-Ray 3000 pinned Joe Doring. DDT (Detroit Demolition Team), composed of N8
Mattson and Eddie Venom, beat Jimmy Jacobs and Phil Atlas. Geza Kalman with
Jimmy Trump beat Dyson Pryce. BCW TV Champion retained the title over Chris
Sabin. Gutter defeated Chris Clontz. Brad Martin and J.T. Playa beat
"Smooth Mover" Chris Pillon and Stryder with Jimmy Trump in a no holds
barred match. "Mr. Class" A-1 with Jade defeated Tyson Dux to retain
the BCW Heavyweight Title. Team Canada (Petey Williams and Bobby Rude) beat the
High Class Cripplers (CK3 and Ruffy Silverstein) to retain the BCW tag team
titles.
BCW thanks everyone who came
to the Seasons Beatings show. The special charity toy/canned goods drive was a
huge success, with a full house of BCW fans. The first BCW event of 2005 will be
on 01.21.05
at the Doug Chevalier Memorial.
World Class Championship Wrestling
WCW will have its next event
at the East Park Recreational Center in Houma, LA, on 01.08.05
at 7:30 PM. Slam Shady with Big Joe will face the WCW champion Minnotaur with
Skandar Akbar in a rematch for the WCW heavyweight title. Half Breed and Bronco
Bob will be in a leather strap match against The Bronze Warriors with Skandar
Akbar and Terror Ted. Also appearing on the card are Justin Stone, Nick Bondage,
Kristin Atlanta with The Fabulous Frankie Page, Lord Humongous, and The Mexican
Giant with Papito. WCW will also feature a special appearance by the legendary
Grizzly Smith, father of Jake "The Snake" Roberts.
