Some Random Thoughts
Miss Elizabeth (Hulette)
died (1960-2003) in Lex Luger's home in Georgia (05.01.03). As of yet, no
results of the autopsy have been released. It sucks to see all the people that
we once were part of our lives die.
Six years ago,
Owen Hart
died while performing in a live event.
World Wrestling Entertainment
Stone Cold is now the co-manager
of RAW. Bischoff is not happy at all. Stone Cold brought back Jim Ross (end of
sabbatical). To
follow the storyline of Jim Ross and Austin being fired, Sean Morley fought
Jerry "the King" Lawler for Jim Ross' job. As expected Morley lost.
Bischoff was upset at Morley and fired him for losing (05.05.03).
Kevin Nash is going through a
bloody feud with Triple H. Although not scheduled as a match, the highlight of
RAW on 05.05.03 was a fight between these two that ended outside the venue.
WWE should help promotions
like TNA. WWE's ratings continue to suffer. WWE needs competition to generate
another "war" similar to the one that it held against WCW for several years that
helped both promotions (money, ratings, etc.).
The Legion of Doom (a.k.a.
The Road Warriors) are back in the WWE, in the RAW division. They had a fight
against Rob Van Dam and Kane for the tag team belts (05.12.03). I am glad to see
LOD, but they are not young and fast anymore. Hopefully the nostalgia hirings
don't turn sour and boring. Who's next, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart? I can only
wish!
Another month and another
WWE PPV has come and gone (Judgment Day, 05.18.03). Nash didn't win the RAW
title from Triple H. Lesner defeated Paul "The Big Show" Wight and still holds
the Smackdown. Christian won the Intercontinental title in the Battle Royal.
Bischoff allegedly got drunk and vomited on the live PPV.
Since the war in Iraq, the
WWE has supported the American troops. Members of the Armed Forces have been
invited to the next PPV. They can go the PPV for free. Someone either thought of
it as public relations or as a tax break. Either way it is a cool way to show
respect to the men and women who put their lives in danger. What's next, free
tickets for the NYPD and FDNY? If anyone in the WWE reads this, come to MSG and
give the police and fire department tickets for a show.
Total Non-Stop Action
TNA still hasn't signed a
deal with a network to air its programming. The people behind TNA can buy
air-time like ECW used to do to increase its TV audience, but that would mean
losing the revenues of the $9.95 weekly PPV programming. That's a tough call.
TNA's quality has changed. I
watched TNA for the first time last December.
It felt like WCW back in the early 1990's. Right now, TNA is like ECW in its
best days. I can't say that I like to watch men beating each other stupid with
screwdrivers or barbwire, but I do enjoy "real" action including the UFC.
