Goodbye Curt Hennig
Curt Hennig was found dead in
his Florida hotel room (02.10.03), at the age of 44. There is no official press
release with the cause of death, yet. Hennig was a second generation wrestler
who was part of AWA, the (old) WWF, WCW and NWA-TNA. Many websites have paid
their respects. It is sad to lose another star.
New Wrasslin'
Does any one remember Ted
Turner? He owned TBS
and TNT where WCW
was broadcast. He also owned CNN,
Cartoon Network,
the Atlanta Braves,
and Turner Classic Movies.
About five years ago he had the great idea of merging with
Time-Warner.
Later AOL and
AOL Time-Warner
merged. As the result of the merger, WCW was put for sale and bought by the WWF
(now WWE). Ted will step down as Vice Chairman of
AOL Time-Warner
in May 2003 (press release of 01.29.03). Once he step down, he will try to buy
back his companies and create a new wrestling promotion.
World Wrestling Entertainment
Vince McMahon fired Eric
Bischoff and re-hired him (02.10.03). What in the hell was McMahon thinking when
he hired Bischoff and Morley? To follow the silly storyline, Bischoff told
McMahon that he would anything to keep his job. Bischoff faced Steve Austin at
the No Way Out PPV. Now what in the hell would happen if Austin backs out on the
WWE again? That would be fun.
Since The Rock helped McMahon
beat Hogan on the No Way Out PPV, The Rock left Smackdown for RAW (01.24.03).
The Rock was part of the 30-man match to find out who would face Triple H at
WrestleMania. Rocky was cocky and lost match to Booker T.
In other WWE news, Tori
Wilson will be in the April 2003 edition of Playboy magazine (what a surprise).
Who is next, Stacy Keibler? What pisses me off is the stupid way that the WWE
tried to sell the story. Stephanie McMahon's announcement implied that the
pictures had not been taken yet (SmackDown 02.27.03). Tori's pictures have been
ready for a while. What is worse is that most wrestling fans knew this
perfectly.
WWE has promoted new music
better than other forms of media. As of late the record that has received lots
of airtime is 'All the Words She Said' recorded by TATU.
For those who are not familiar with the record, it is the entry track for
Victoria (real name Lisa Marie Varon). Other artists who have been helped by the
WWE have been Kid Rock,
Rob Zombie
and Motley Crue.
Believing everything you hear
or read is stupid. According to some wrestling sites, there are talks about
reviving ECW. It
seems like the WWF is buying all assets from ECW. I hope this story is true. So
far it looks like it will happen. After all, the WWF has revived the Full-Blood
Italian (F.B.I.) name (SmackDown, 02.27.03). Those who enjoyed watching ECW can
remember the F.B.I. with Little Guido (now called Munzio).
Total Non-Stop Action
The Sandman (former ECW
champion) has arrived at NWA-TNA. He had an old style ECW fight with Raven
(02.12.03).
With the hardcore direction
that wrestling took with ECW (around 1995), both the "old" WWF and WCW became
more violent and exciting. At the same time smaller promotions also tried the
hardcore formula. With the Sandman and Raven, NWA-TNA will be able to grab most
of the hardcore wrestling fans. After all, the WWE dropped hardcore wrestling
(bad move).
Does anyone remember Vader?
The former WCW champion is back in the US. He is now fighting in NWA-TNA. He is
not a heel this time around.
Border City Wrestling
The following was sent by
Border City Wrestling. On Thursday, 02.27.03 at Taylor Sportsplex in Taylor,
Michigan (with an attendance of 325), BCW paid tribute to the late Jeffrey
Dingess (a.k.a. Yukon Braxton). Before the show, a 10-bell salute to honor
Jeffrey Dingess was held.
"The Future" Chris Sabin
defeated Trent Steele, Petey Williams, and Alex Shelley in a four-way dance.
Breyer Wellington beat
Maynard R. Nekk.
DBA beat Mr. Insanity.
Tenacious Z, in his final
independent appearance, defeated his trainer, Truth Martini.
"The Alpha Male"
Monty Brown pinned Stevie Lee with Handsome Johnny Bradford.
Original Sinn and A-1 with
Miss Natasha beat Gutter and Elvis Elliot.
Sabu pinned Anthony Rivera.
D'Lo Brown (who replaced
Tommy Dreamer for the event) defeated Dyson Pryce.
After the final contest of
the evening, all of the wrestlers joined together in the ring to pay tribute to
Braxton.
