Owen Hart Owen James Hart (1965-1999) died during the Over The Edge PPV (05.23.99) when his stunt as the Blue Blazer went wrong. He collapsed from 50 or 85 feet (unclear sources) to the ground. Various wrestling sites (WWF, WCW, ECW, etc.) paid tribute to Owen. Even though I wasn't fond of his ring persona, I recognize his technical ability. This site joins his family and friends remembering Owen Hart who was four time tag team champion, Intercontinental Champion, European Champion, King of the Ring, and two-time Slammy winner. He was never able to hold the world title.

Surprisingly the Over The Edge PPV continued even though there had been a death in the house. Maybe promoters would ban all dangerous stunts. Gravity can hurt or kill more wrestlers.

Shawn Michaels returned to the WWF (05.10.99) and shook its foundations. Sable (real name Rena Mero) was practically stripped of the Women's Title in favor of Debra (who is not a wrestler either). Steve Austin with Rocky and Vince McMahon won a six-man tag team match against Shane McMahon with the Undertaker and Triple H.

The WWF had a two-hour show on UPN (04.29.99), which was one time special presentation. I haven't written much about the WWF because it has been very lame this month. Because of the death of Owen Hart, it had rather been shocking. By the way, the new WWF heavyweight champion is the Undertaker (05.23.99) who defeated Steve Austin.

World Championship Wrestling
WCW has an hour long Spanish show running on Saturdays on Telemundo, which starts as Nitro. It is good to have a Spanish show that can be exported to other countries but the translation is very poor and bias.

Randy Savage On the first Nitro of this month (05.03.99), Gorgeous George (Stephanie Bellars) came to the ring with Randy "Macho Man" Savage wearing a small bikini top. She got into an argument, which became physical against Ric Flair's "head nurse" (later known as Asya). Somehow the small and tight bikini top exposed Gorgeous George's breasts on television. Unfortunately the wrong camera recorded the footage. Note that TNT is aired on worldwide.

Kevin Nash won the heavyweight title from DDP. Kevin Nash challenged Bret Hart for a $250,000 match. Due to Owen Hart's death the match never happened. Meanwhile Kevin Nash has been challenged by Bam Bam Bigelow and Randy "Macho Man" Savage. Speaking of the Outsider Kevin Nash, where is Scott Hall?

Raven and Perry Saturn are the tag team champions with Kanyon as their sidekick. Raven and Saturn are using the move that the Eliminators (Saturn and Kronus) used in ECW, with a double kick on the opponent (one on the torso and another on the legs at the same time).

WCW took a week off (no Nitro on TNT, no Thunder on TBS). Because of the NBA and Saturday shows are cut down to an hour because of the Atlanta Braves. It may a bad move from Turner Broadcasting, but wrestling is still seen as a second class sport (or sport entertainment).

Extreme Championship Wrestling
This month's first show was based on what the promotion had taped in Queens. See the review of my first ECW show. The second show was partially based on those tapes. There was some new footage, which was recorded at Fort Lauderdale, FL. It had a great fight with Jerry Lynn and Justin Credible.

One of the results of the PPV are not to much of a surprise. Taz defeated Chris Candido. Rob Van Dam kept the TV title defeating Jerry Lynn who was complemented by RVD.

What's the gossip about Shane Douglas leaving ECW? Would he retire or go to another promotion?

On 05.27.99 at Loganville, GA, Prodigy TJ Gray defeated Rick Michaels who had Gray in a pinning position using the ropes for leverage and the referee kicked his hands off the ropes and Gray was able to roll Michaels up for the pin. Faku, Vic Violent and Bulldog Raines fought a tree way dance to a no-contest. Air Paris defeated David Young retaining the NWA GA Jr. title by reversing a Young powerbomb for the pin. Sean Evans defeated Bart Sawyer by disqualification for using a chain again. Bulldoh Raines defeated Lance Dreamer after a powerslam in a tough match. Silky Boom Boom defeated Frenchy Riviera on a reversed decision by disqualification. Riviera retained the NWA GA Title. Joel Deaton was "special referee". Deaton was frequently distracted by his manager RJ Allen, missing numerous illegal attacks by Frenchy. When Frenchy used Deaton's bullwhip, Deaton smiled and counted out Silky. Senior Referee, David Lee came to the ring reversed the decision and suspended Deaton from future refering. Deaton, Frenchy, Allen, and Mark Davis all attacked Silky, until chased from the ring. Deaton said he never wanted to be a referee anyway, told Silky he looked forward to their match on 06.03.99. Mark Davis then brought out the man behind everything that had occurred, Honest John.

"Rock 'n Roll Kid" Bob Keller defeated "Sexy" Shane Shadows with both the CPW Title and Mike Keller's bounty money on the line, first no contest when Switchblade nailed Shadows with the a chair, then referee Mike DiMuzio ordered the restart. Since Mike Keller is not a CPW official, Bob Keller never officially pinned Shane. Therefore, Shane Shadows remains the CPW Heavyweight Champion.

Wrestling Journal has gone global. The UWA from the UK has sent us information about the promotion.

UWA brings pain to the Pleasure Beach Blackpoolice Ice Arena on 06.10.99.

The UWA’s British Resurrection Tour blasts into Blackpool in less than three weeks. To cut down the length of the necessary (and so far very successful) TV taping, UWA officials have decided to offer wrestling fans a two-parter with a matinee and an evening show. Both shows will feature outstanding athletes but the matinee will give us a chance to focus on the UWA’s up and coming stars. Over 25 of the best British wrestlers today will be competing throughout the day.

UWA The UWA title will be on the line at the evening show in a three way elimination match featuring The Anarchist Doug Williams, Kerry Cabrero and Hot Stuff Stevie Knight. All three men were impressive at Crystal Palace and we know that there's no love lost between The Anarchist and Stevie Knight after Hot Stuff cost Doug a crucial victory against American Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels. With the UWA title up for grabs for the very first time we can expect one of the toughest, most intense contests the UK will see this year.

Twenty-two stone Scottish monster Drew McDonald is a recent UWA signing and is scheduled to make his debut at the Blackpool evening show against 100% British Beef Danny Royal. The winner will be the next in line for a shot at the UWA title so we are in for a grueling, physical match. As they are separate TV tapings The UWA TV Title will be on the line at both the matinee and the evening show. Altogether two shows were to continue the British Resurrection.

Get set for action with the like of Phil Powers, Big Papa T, Mad Dog McPhie, The Death Squad, Paul Sloane, 2 Far Gone, Jody Flash, Bad Boys, Werra, Karl Kramer and many more. The Tiny Girls will be there to raise the heat!
