Random Thoughts
Late last month
USA Today,
ran an article on whether wrestling was good for younger expectators or not. It
seems that someone has to blame somebody or something for children misbehavior.
Children misbehave only as a reflection or feedback of what parents or guardians
teach or show them. Don't use music or wrestling as your scapegoat. Wrestling is
a good excuse for parents to enjoy hours of fun with their children. There are
not too many things that parents can share nowadays with their children. Just
explain them that some acts are just acts, not reality. Of course, some acts
kill too.
This is a wrestling site, not
a boxing site. However the unification boxing match with Evander Holyfield
(International Boxing Federation
and World Boxing Association
champion) and Lennox Lewis (World Boxing Council
champion) should be held again. There should have been a champion, not a draw.
Everyone can agree with me. Lennox Lewis won the fight but two of the three
judges were stupid enough not to see that.
World Wrestling Federation
I have a correction to make.
The Road Dogg was not kicked out of the WWF as I mistakenly
stated.
He returned to action (RAW, 03.01.99) in a very bad mood. Later (RAW, 03.15.99),
he won the Intercontinental title. His tag team partner, Billy Gunn won the
Hardcore title the same night. The following week (03.22.99) they gave us a
great match putting both titles on the line. They both kept their titles.
The top story in WWF is Sable
in Playboy magazine. On page 128, Rena Mero (better known as Sable) has her very
own eight page pictorial. (Yes, she is really naked.) A small biography at the
bottom of some of the pictures reveals that she is married to Mark Mero and her
past as a model. By the way, does anyone care to know where Mark Mero is? I
thought not.
If Jerry "the King"
Lawler is not bad mouthing someone in the WWF or ECW on WWF air time, he is
fighting. Surprisingly he is not fighting in WWF. He is rather fighting in
NWA Nashville and USWA.
WWF has re-issued
Wrestlemania The Album on RCA. Six of the eight wrestlers who appear on the
album are no longer part of the WWF. Hacksaw Jim Duggan is still part of WCW
even though he has been out because of surgery. The Nasty Boys are somewhere
making others smell their armpits but I don't know where. Bret "Hitman" Hart is
now in WCW still not given a shot for the world heavyweight championship. The
Undertaker is still part of WWF. Randy Savage is still in WCW but not active.
Tatanka was in UCW last time I checked. Curt Henning is one half of the WCW Tag
Champions now and cannot use the name of Mr Perfect anymore. The Big Boss Man
recently returned to WWF after spending sometime in WCW.
World Championship Wrestling
Where is Steve
"Mongo" McMichael? At least his wife, Debra, is parading herself in
the WWF showing off her breasts and panties on national television with Jeff
Jarrett. She is making a fool of Mongo, acting like a bitch.
Rey Mysterio Jr defeated
Kevin Nash (Nitro, 02.22.99) and Bam Bam Bigelow (Nitro, 03.01.99). Either
Mysterio learned how to make a big man tumble or WCW wants him to look good
without his mask. It was not pure luck. He won the cruiser weight title from
Kidman (Nitro, 03.15.99), with whom two weeks later (Nitro, 03.29.99) won the
Tag Team titles from the Horsemen. Mysterio had a match (Nitro, 03.22.99) with
Rick Flair for the World title which he lost because Arn Anderson saved Flair.
Bam Bam Bigelow (the
favorite for the match) was scheduled for a three way dance with Raven and Hak
(the Sandman) for this month's pay-per-view. Hak won this match. It is ECW
talent on WCW. The latter promotion is finally going back where it started. It
is funny the way WCW has adopted to be rated PG. On tapes like the Best of
Halloween Havoc, WCW was as violent as ECW is but with tons of gimmicks. On this
tape for example there is a match with sort of an electric chair in the middle
of the ring. Don't get me wrong: I thought the tape was great but why act like
the promotion was never into bloody fights with barbwire and such.
What is the deal with David
Flair? Is he really a wrestler? He betrayed his father, Rick Flair, and joined
the NWO. It seems like another gimmick to catch the attention of the viewers.
The only good thing that came out from this charade is Rick Flair won Hulk
Hogan's belt inside a steel cage with no doors and barbwire at the top at the
Uncensored. Rick Flair won the title for the fourteenth time and will continue
to be the president of WCW. To continue with the Horsemen's good news, Dean
Malenko and Chris Benoit are the new tag champions.
Scott Hall got the US
heavyweight title from Bret "the Hitman" Hart a month ago. He was stripped from
it by Rick Flair (03.15.99) for defending the title in 30 days. Now there will a
tournament for the title which would end at Spring Stampede.
On a wrestling magazine
lately I read about Nitro being too long that most fans had to take an extra
effort just to watch it. The magazine, which I won't mention in order to keep
everything legally safe, asked why not cut an hour off the show. On Monday
03.08.99, I started recording half an hour after it started. I watched probably
half an hour worth of a collection of clips from past shows and the upcoming
PPV. Did I miss anything worth watching? Originally that extra hour was full of
action and now it is packed with nonsense. WCW should cut that extra hour off.
At two hours it can be bearable to watch. If not, we would have to continue
recording it and watching through the week. Read my previous
comments
about this.
Extreme Championship Wrestling
Last month,
I mentioned the mishap that Francine went through when trying to protect Shane
Douglas from Lance Storm and Jusitin Credible. On the ECW 02.28.99 program
(taped on 02.12.99) Douglas and Tommy Dreamer attacked those who attacked them
earlier that night. Francine even hit Jason with a spear in the stomach (similar
as to what Goldberg does). Even though it happened in mid February, it was good
to follow up with that story on a good note. Besides it was good to see
Francine's tattoo (on her butt) and Dreamer joined Shane Douglas' Triple Threat
as the new Franchise (maybe not yet). On the Living Dangerously PPV, Douglas and
Dreamer won a match against Credible and Storm.
For some stupid reason ECW
has concentrated on their PPV and not had much new material. I couldn't see the
PPV, but I read the report in the ECW site. Taz united the FTW and ECW belts.
Taz later showed respect to Sabu by shaking hands after the match. According to
ECW, they had feuded since 1993 when they both debuted in ECW. After six years,
it has finally ended.
Still no one from either
WWF or WCW has responded the challenge set by Taz.
If you think that this could be great match, contact WWF or WCW. Let's push
those who write the checks to signing this match.
ECW is getting really good.
Since it is taped every three weeks and aired through out those three weeks, it
is fresh not over done. Some sections should be shorten though as the ECW ads
and the long stupid interviews. They should get real advertisers. In NYC, the
MSG
runs ECW programming like infomercials. The channel does include some
MSG
advertisements for the Yankees,
Rangers,
Knicks
or other MSG
related programming. After all, it is their channel.
